Papa Cyangwe has been paid 5 million Frw! His dealings with Kigali Universe continue to reach a new level.

In a press statement issued to the media, Kigali Universe said it was released in response to false information recently spread by the artist.

Papa Cyangwe had claimed that after his show at the venue, he encountered problems including being detained, and that from all the money generated at the event, he did not receive even a hundred francs.

Kigali Universe stated that after seeing the false information shared by Papa Cyangwe following the concert held on November 22, 2025, it wished to inform Rwandans of the true facts.

The statement says that Uwiringiyimana, known as Papa Cyangwe, requested to host his concert at Kigali Universe. Since Kigali Universe is a home of entertainment, it immediately agreed to let him use the venue free of charge.

According to the agreement that followed, Kigali Universe was to provide him with a concert hall for free, two bottles of G69, one box of water, a digital ticketing system, and promotion for the show.

The statement continues, saying Papa Cyangwe was responsible for finding and paying for the sound system, stage lights, stage setup, decoration, security personnel, protocol staff, cleaners, and all other services not covered by Kigali Universe. Both sides agreed to this, and Papa Cyangwe signed the contract.

Why the equipment was cut off…

The statement reads: “During the show, while it was ongoing, the sound was cut off by the person Papa Cyangwe had rented the equipment from because of a debt of 1,200,000 Frw which he had not paid, nor had he informed Kigali Universe about it. To prevent the show from stopping, Kigali Universe mediated between both sides, and they agreed that the money would be deducted from the entry fees, since Papa Cyangwe was the one responsible for determining admissions.”

It is said that the money was deducted from the earnings, but it became clear that the amount would not be enough to pay the debt and also cover costs owed to Kigali Universe, since only 400,000 Frw remained after the event.

Papa Cyangwe then agreed with Kigali Universe to pay the equipment owner, leaving a remaining debt of 800,000 Frw, which he acknowledged and signed.

The statement refutes Papa Cyangwe’s claims that he was detained at Kigali Universe, saying no such thing happened. Instead, he was discussing with the owner of the equipment while financial reconciliation was being done—calculating how much was collected, how much he owed, and how much needed to be paid to both the venue and the equipment provider.

The statement reads: “Claims that Papa Cyangwe was ‘detained’ at Kigali Universe are blatant lies. After the show, financial reconciliation was conducted as usual. During that time, he had his phone, speaking with friends and the equipment owner to determine how he would settle the debt.”

It continues, saying Papa Cyangwe was actually speaking to the equipment owner who was not even at Kigali Universe but at another workplace. They discussed the matter by phone and agreed that Papa Cyangwe would pay the 400,000 Frw immediately, while the remaining 800,000 Frw would be paid on November 25, 2025.

Kigali Universe added: “If Papa Cyangwe truly felt unsafe or held hostage, he would have called security organs such as the Police, but he did not. This contradicts the false claims he made.”

The Kigali Universe statement says the venue provided support worth more than 5,000,000 Frw, including paying for expenses the artist was supposed to cover himself. It concludes that this establishment, founded by Coach Gael, has now been tarnished and is ready to pursue all available avenues, including legal action.
