Tems has arrived in Uganda

She explained this in a message she posted on X, inviting her fans to ask her any question they wanted. One fan asked why she had not performed in Uganda. They wrote: “What is the reason behind not performing in Uganda?”

In response, Tems shared a photo of herself in court when she had been detained in Uganda in 2020.

In December 2020, Tems and fellow Nigerian artist Omah Lay were detained in Kampala after performing during the COVID-19 pandemic, in violation of restrictions that prohibited large gatherings or concerts. Although they had been invited to perform, their concert exceeded the permitted guidelines, which led to their arrest.

This incident sparked a backlash between Nigerians and Ugandans, involving artists, fans, and even politicians. Tems later said the experience was upsetting and from that point decided to distance herself from Uganda.

Since then, she has performed in neighboring countries, but has not returned to perform in Uganda.
